Product Description

In 1830, Felix Mendelssohn (1809-1847) visited the city of Venice. The sight of the city at night while his gondola slowly moved across the water left a deep impression on him. The first Venetian Boat Song (Op. 19, No. 6) was written based on this experience in 1830. Mendelssohn would continue on to write four more pieces revolving around the gondola, including, of course, Op. 30, No. 6. Venetian Boat Song No. 2 (Venetianisches Gondellied No. 2), is included in Mendelssohn's second book of Songs Without Words (Lieder ohne Worte), published in 1834. This transcription for clarinet is edited and based on a transcription for violin and piano by Friedrich Hermann in 1878.
