Postcard From Milltown Malbay captures the buzz in a bar in Milltown, on the West Coast of Ireland, during the Willie Clancy week, with laughter, conversation and never-ending sessions as musicians come and go. The scoring is totally flexible so instruments and voices can join in or drop out, play any of the ten lines at any octave or even improvise their own line. The optional voice parts have words naming all the bars in Milltown and the instruments in an Irish session. There are endless possibilities of different textures with trios, quartets, brass, strings, or a 'rhythm section' with an improvised solo. The score is in C and there are parts in C, Bb, Eb, bass clef, alto clef and vocal lines (high and low) so any instrument or voice can join in. It was written for the COMA Summer School 2025 and quickly picked up by community ensembles.
