Product Description

Panagiotis Theodossiou, Magnificat for soprano and contralto soloists, and 4-part mixed choir op.108 (2025), was written within the framework of the composer's doctoral studies at the Ionian University, Greece, under the supervision of Professor Josef Papadatos. The work is based on the classic Latin text of the Catholic Church dedicated to the Virgin Mary. A canticle which is taken from the Gospel of Luke (1,46 -55) where it is spoken by Mary upon the occasion of her Visitation to her cousin Elizabeth. It consisted of nine uninterrupted parts, which follow the parts of the text in order. It follows a multilingual style that combines serial-atonal and tonal idioms. Here is a MIDI playback version, edited by the composer in Dorico, for playback.
