Product Description
Beethoven's Great Fugue in B flat major for string quartet, Op. 133 (1825), his formidable and most difficult masterpiece, is arranged here for full orchestra for the first time (this is a revision of a rather crude first version from 1996, which featured heavy brass, too). The present version includes the score and parts, is a bit more idiomatic and utilizes a Classical orchestra, with 4 horns, plus an extra pair of timpani. Of course the original doesn't need to be orchestrated, as its wild counterpoint and harsh dissonances are less obvious thus, yet its new guise may help novices get more accustomed to it. Actually, fugue as a genre or technique is hardly suitable to the orchestra, so this orchestration is almost straightforward, preserving the chamber music character of the original and of the Classical orchestra.
Useful for conductors, professional orchestras, and students of Beethoven, counterpoint and orchestration. Performing Rights Organization: SOCAN. Total duration 16 min. 30 sec.
