Product Description

Cavalleria rusticana is an opera in one act by Pietro Mascagni, which premiered on 17 May 1890 at Teatro Costanzi in Rome. Its dramatic plot about love, jealousy and adultery is iterrupted for a few minutes by the Intermezzo sinfonico, which symbolizes the Easter piece of the devout catholic churchgoers. It became very popular not only by using ist as a concert piece, but also by its appearance in commercials and movies like Francis Ford Coppola's The Godfather and Martin Scorsese's Raging Bull. The arrangement is kept in the original key for symphony orchestra and was commissioned originally by Wind Philharmonic Mozarteum Salzburg to be performed at their Three Kings Concert 1917, but due to a program change not played there. So the first performance took place in November 2018 by the Municipal Band of Zirl, Tyrol, Austria conducted by Albert Schwarzmann. Performance Note: The ad lib. parts are intended to substitute or enrich the organ part. Marimba and Contrabass are intended as a substitue for the 2 harps.
