Product Description

O Holy Night was composed in 1847 by Adolphe Charles Adam (1803-1856), a French composer with many operas and ballets to his credit. The Christmas song has become an essential item in many Christmas services and concerts. This arrangement is scored for cello and piano and the lowest note in the solo part is the C in the second space of the bass clef (C3) and the highest note is the F (only once) above the staff (F4). The cello part is in the bass clef throughout and much of the piece could be played in first position. The piano part is easy with conventional notation and chord symbols, being a simplified version of the original. There is another more advanced arrangement of this piece (in G major) which uses tenor clef and requires the use of higher position. It is available from the same publisher.

First performed in 1847, the original song achieved fame quickly and has been translated into many languages. The most popular English translation was written in 1855 by John Sullivan Dwight. The song was evidently featured in the world's first radio broadcast on Christmas Eve of 1906.

This arrangement is in concert C major and 6/8 throughout. The PDF file contains both the piano score and a separate solo part. O Holy Night has been recorded by many choirs and singers including Luciano Pavorotti and Placido Domingo, Mariah Carey, John Berry, The Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Ella Fitzgerald and Celine Dion.
