Product Description

This four part choral arrangement of 'The water is wide' (to the tune O waly waly) is an adaptation of an 8 part arrangement done in August 2012 for a university a cappella group.

The pdf as downloaded comes in two formats: SSAA on treble clefs, for those who like to read ledger lines, and TLBarB with octavated bass clefs for barbershoppers who do not! The notes are identical, only the notation differs.

The melody is mainly in the highest, although verse 2 is sung by the lowest part, and the final verse involves a descant. The arrangement moves from a melody line (which could be sung by a soloist) over 'do do' backing, to a polyphonic second verse, before moving into a homophonic structure. The ranges and voice leading do not make this particularly challenging for a barbershop ensemble, although non-barbershop women's choirs may find the lower end quite rangy, as the Alto 2 / Bass part goes down to an Eb quite regularly.

Vocal ranges:
Soprano 1 / Tenor: Eb4 - Ab5 (Eb above middle C to Ab above high C)
Soprano 2 / Lead: C4 - Eb5 (middle C to Eb above high C)
Alto 1 / Baritone: F3 to Bb4 (F below middle C to Bb above middle C)
Alto 2 / Bass: Eb3 - F4 (Eb below middle C to F above middle C)
