Triologue
for oboe, clarinet, and bassoon
Triologue explores the rich and varied dialogue that can emerge between three distinct musical voices. Scored for oboe, clarinet, and bassoon-each with its own timbral personality-the piece unfolds as a musical conversation marked by contrast, interplay, and evolving relationships.
The title, a play on the word dialogue, emphasizes the equal footing of the three instruments, which alternately lead, support, interrupt, and echo one another. The work is structured in several contrasting sections that shift between playful rhythmic banter, lyrical exchanges, and moments of introspective solitude.
Rather than adhering to a traditional form, Triologue is episodic in nature, reflecting the spontaneity and unpredictability of human conversation. At times, the instruments speak as one, forming unified gestures; at other times, they diverge into layered, independent lines that create tension and color.
From spirited to contemplative, Triologue celebrates the expressive possibilities of the reed trio, highlighting the distinctive voices of each instrument while weaving them into a cohesive musical narrative.
