Product Description

This is an arrangement of the lovely "Bist Du Bie Mir" vocal solo included in J.S. Bach's Anna Magdelena Notebook. It was originally atrributed to Bach and has a BMV number, but more recent scholarship attributes the tune to G.H. Stolzel, although it is likely that Bach arranged it to his liking. This particular arrangement takes the piano/harpsichord part and leaves it virtually unchanged from Bach's version. The violin and cello parts are in close harmony, which leaves the violin at the lower (mellow) part of its range, whilst the cello speaks in a less mellow register. This is intentional, and the result is quite remarkable in performance. The original key of E-flat major has been transposed to F major in deference to the violin's native range. Baroque performance practice is appropriate including articulation and ornaments at the discretion of the performers. This piece is appropriate at weddings, and even at worship services, as the original text of "Are You With Me" can have several contexts both sacred and secular.
