Product Description

This is a "participation song" that allows the group to add lyrics that pertains to them as well as to sing the traditional lyrics. It begins with a slow, lyrical introduction before launching into a fast "Gospel" style of pianism. In the 19th century these songs were identified as "play party" songs in which fellowship and closeness could be cultivated at social gatherings. Here,
there are many teaching points: syncopated rhythms, a substantial use of bass clef, several appearances of "substitute" chords (for harmonic interest), presentation of the tune in two keys(C and B-flat, and common accompaniment styles for the gospel pianist. Two verses of lyrics are included above the treble clef.
