Product Description

The title of this collection, Chopin Etudes Lite, should in no way be taken to mean
that the pieces are easy to play or easier than in their original versions. The
Lite moniker merely identifies them as being reduced in time and in the quantity
of notes they contain. In fact, one or two of these pieces may be more difficult to
play than in their original versions. In any event, the busy modern pianist may
welcome the chance to get through these pieces more quickly than they would
normally which means they will have more time for practicing the rest of their
repertoire. The most unusual item in the collection is the result of an alleged
romantic relationship between Op. 25, No. 1 and Op. 25, No. 3. A fanciful subtitle
for this piece could be, Valse Tryst (not Triste).
Technically, three of the etudes have had redundant octaves removed from their
figuration. Others are presented in reduced meters (6/8 becomes 2/4 and 4/4
becomes 3/4 e.g.) while the meter in Op. 10, No. 10 gradually shrinks from 13/8
down to 4/8 like a cake that disappears as it is being eaten. I have made all of the
above changes while declaring my utmost respect for the original versions. These
changed Etudes are meant to serve as light-hearted diversions from the difficult
daily grind of the concert pianist. The sample audio file was created in Finale software using the sound font of a Steinway D grand piano.
All Eight Etudes plus Valse Tryst No. 2 from the Appendix are included in the audio compilation. Other Arrangements and Compositions by Christopher Kies may be accessed at Christopherkies.com
