This piano composition showcases my approach to Sonata form which leans more towards the episodic side than continuous, developmental side. My main source of inspiration was Mozart's Piano Sonata No. 14 in C minor and various minor scale piano compositions by Beethoven and Mendelssohn. I have noticed during the composition process that I am more capable of manipulating compositions in minor scales rather than major scales. The title refers to scherzo nature of the piece while the subtitle refers to the piece being a exercise in Sonata form from composition perspective.
