Product Description

A solo piano arrangemet of Song of Seikilos, ideal for beginner and intermediate players.

Song of Seikilos is the oldest known complete song in the world. In 1883, the inscription was found engraved on a pillar (stele) from the ancient Greek town of Tralles (present-day Aydin, Turkey). It contained a complete musical melody written in ancient Greek musical notation, along with full lyrics:

Ancient Greek (as inscribed):

σον ζς, φαίνου·
μηδν λως σ λυπο·
πρς λίγον στ τ ζν,
τ τέλος χρόνος παιτε.

English Translation:

As long as you live, shine.
Do not suffer at all.
Life exists only for a short while,
and time demands its due.
