McKinney was an early 20th century hymnist. The tune was also called "When the Dreary Day is Over." Sections A and C are the verse. Sections B and D are the chorus. A modulation to a new key occurs towards the end of section B with the help of a French augmented sixth chord. A descant by yours truly is then added. The song should be 'dolce' or sweetly, never rushed.
