Product Description

Two Chorales from BWV 140 for Piano Trio has been arranged by Joseph I. Corporon (ASCAP).

Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme, BWV 140, is one of J. S. Bach's most beloved church cantatas, and is based on the hymn of the same name by Philipp Nicolai. This cantata was part of Bach's second cycle of church cantatas composed during the period he lived and worked in Leipzig. It was composed for the 27th Sunday after Trinity and was first performed on November 25, 1731.

The first chorale in this arrangement, Zion hört die Wächter singen, was originally scored for strings, continuo, and the Tenor section or solist, and was set to the text of the second verse of Nicolai's hymn. The Violoncello plays the melody in this movement.

The second chorale in this arrangement, Gloria sei dir gesungen, was originally scored for strings, continuo, and mixed chorus, and was set to the third verse of Nicolai's hymn. The Violin plays the melody in this movement.
