Product Description
The Garrison was composed by The Fluffy Hat Music Company as a quick troop for the Kings Birthday Parade (trooping the colour) in 2025. This work is dedicated to Warrant Officer Class 1, Garrison Sergeant Major Stokes OBE MVO, in recognition of his distinguished service and to mark his tenure as the Garrison Sergeant Major of HQ London District. During his time in office, WO1 Stokes played a pivotal role in orchestrating several significant national ceremonial events, including the Duke of Edinburghs Funeral, Op London Bridge, and Op Golden Orb. In recognition of his service he has been made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire, and a Member of the Royal Victorian Order. His contributions have established him as one of the most esteemed members of the Coldstream Guards in recent history - a history that spans 375 years in 2025. The march is filled with bold themes and snappy motifs. Initially, it sets a serious and commanding tone in a minor key. This gives way to a celebratory section featuring rhythmic motifs borrowed from Figaros Regimental Slow March of the Coldstream Guards. There is a transition, musically coinciding with the massed-bands halt, leading into the subdominant trio, which has a more stately and noble feel. The harmonic interest modulates and builds, and following an uplifting fanfare-like bridge section the piece reaches its glorious peak at the grandioso section. There are numerous musical reference throughout, including subtle nods to Milanollo (Hamm, The Coldstream Guards Regimental march), When the Guards are on Parade (Nicholls), and also a very pertinent rhythmic pattern of Morse code
