Product Description

"Route 66," written by Bobby Troup is a jazz swing classic made famous by numerous artists such as Nat King Cole, Manhattan Transfer, Glenn Frye, Rolling Stones, Chuck Berry, and others. "Get Your Kicks on Route 66" is a catch-phrase about a highway on a road trip that takes travelers through cities in the U. S., which is known as the "Mother Road." Mr. Robinson arranged this jazz classic when he turned sixty-six. He taught it to Urban Strings of Columbus (OH) Youth Orchestra and they performed it well. Although it can be played with or without percussion, the percussion adds so much. Each of the percussion parts are "grand-staffed" accordingly - bongo/congas and the drum (trap) set with a line for the cymbals. The director may wish to add maracas and/or tambourine. The eighth notes in jazz swing are "swinged" like two notes in a triplet figure of a quarter note followed by a half note, but written as two half notes. This arrangement was inspired by the recording by Nat King Cole. The student musicians are likely to look iup that recording on social media.
