Product Description

This is probably the best-known song from the original "Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory," released in 1971. It was based on Roald Dahl's book, "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," with music by Leslie Bricusse and Anthony Newley (who was also in the movie).
But Sammy Davis Jr. made it a hit -- his only No. 1. It topped the Billboard Hot 100 for three weeks in 1972. But Davis didn't like the song (at least not until it hit paydirt). He described it as "too Julie Andrews."
"This song is going straight into the toilet," he told a reporter. "Not just around the rim but into the bowle, and it may just pull my whole career with it."
It is pretty hokey, but listeners loved it.
This arrangement is based on the fine rendition for big band by Sammy Nestico, longtime arranger for Count Basie.
You'll find the video score on YouTube titled "The Candy Man brass quintet." If you need alternate instrumentation, I'm happy to help. Contact me at wilcor@aol.com.
