Smith was a 20th Century pastor, writer, and hymnist from Ontario, Canada. Ackley was a late 19th century/early 20th century musician, editor, writer, and hymnist from Pennsylvania. This work is also known as "Revive Thy Work, O Lord." Sections A and C are the verse. Sections B and D are the refrain. A modulation to a new key occurs towards the end of section B with the aid of a French augmented sixth chord. A descant by yours truly is then added.
