At the 1893 world premiere of Antonin Dvořáks New World Symphony in Carnegie Hall, the audience was deeply moved by the Largo movement. While some speculated that the melody was quoted from an African-American spiritual, Dvořák himself credited his inspiration to spirituals introduced to him by African-American composer Harry Burleigh. Nearly three decades later in 1922, Dvořáks student William Arms Fisher adapted the Largo melody with new lyrics, transforming it into the beloved song Goin Home.

This arrangement features a solo horn, providing a touching and somber countermelody. It was created to honor those affected by the tragic Southern California fires of 2025.
