"We Are Family" is a song recorded by American vocal group Sister Sledge. Composed by Bernard Edwards and Nile Rodgers, the track was released in April 1979 and began to gain club and radio play, eventually becoming the group's signature song. The recording went gold, becoming the number one R&B and number two pop song on the American charts in 1979 (behind "Hot Stuff" by Donna Summer). In 2017, the song was selected for preservation in the National Recording Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant" and Billboard magazine included it in their "Best Pop Songs of All Time". This arrangement for jazz ensemble shifts the key from A major to the more band-friendly B flat major and remains faithful to the style of the original - the trumpets play more of a supporting role for the singer(s) and an optional keyboard part is included to cover the distinctive strings sound.
