These are my 10 favourite songs from my childhood Midsommar celebrations, arranged for string quartet: they bring back memories of beautiful, sunny days, full of dancing and laughter.
I have kept these arrangements very simple, so that students can play them too! The 1st violin is always playing the tune, and I have included the lyrics, in case of people singing along as well (in quite a few of these arrangements, the 1st violin is playing the tune an octave higher, so that it can be heard even if people are singing). The 1st violin parts range in difficulty between grade 1 (Björnen sover: Gmajor, low 2nd finger) to grade 4 for some of the more difficult ones (3rd position, some are quite fast).
The other 3 parts are very simple: some of them are of grade 1 level, although there are a couple in flat keys that might need grade 2/3. The final song, "Vi äro musikanter" has a little bit more interest, and the 2nd violin even has a little decoration on the lyrics "fiolioliolej"! If you are looking for something fun for a student string orchestra, these arrangements can also work very well for that.
