Product Description

Balkanesque is a piece for two pianos written and premiered in 2021. It draws inspiration from the Balkan peninsula region in Southeastern Europe with its harmonies and odd time signatures. The composer, Stoyan Stefanov, was born and raised in Bulgaria where he naturally absorbed the music of the area through mere exposure. He decided to explore his roots in this piece while setting the music to a more modern, jazz-inspired harmonic and improvisatory language.

Premiered on December 7th, 2021 in Santa Monica College Performing Arts Center under the direction of Dr. Yulia Kozlova.
