Score & Parts Formatted 8.5 X 11

Mayreh is the opening song on my first big band recording under my own name, On the Wild Side. I was fortunate to have the legendary Bud Shank as an Alto soloist, and paired with trumpeter Clay Jenkins, they roared through this challenging chart. Horace based this tune on the old American standard All Gods Children Got Rhythm (check out measures 113-114 and the last two bars)

This arrangement is not for the faint of heart. The solo parts for alto and trumpet are demanding and a strong lead trumpet player is a must...it helps if you can have Wayne Bergeron in that chair as on the recording.

I wanted to highlight the contrast between Buds improvisational style and Clays more contemporary approach, so there is an obvious shift in the chord changes (tertiary to quartal) from Buds choruses to Clays.

This arrangement swings no matter what the tempo and is a real crowd pleaser from concert to contest.

Additional Scores formatted 11 X 17 & 8.5 X 14 Are Availabe In A Separate Category
(Ensemble: Score Only (reference score without parts for Orchestra, Band, Ensemble)
