Product Description
In its four movements, this piece is presented in various styles, moods, and complexities, each providing its own challenges and delights.
The opening movement is very much Jazz-inspired. It begins with a pensive lento cantabile section, slow and melodic over broken chords. It then gives way to a quick, punchy faster section, an imaginative melody, jazz harmonies, and disjunct rhythms perhaps reminiscent of Miles Davis. The movement is rounded out with a reprise of the opening slow theme. Its a delight to hear, and challenging, yet fun to play.
The second movement is marked, delicatamente, delicately. It features a slow, somewhat sad, rhythmically complex melody. This contrasts beautifully with a quick piano ostinato which, with increasing intensity, pervades the entire movement.
Next, there is a lovely section marked, in stile romantico, in a romantic style. The beautiful melody is presented in a style somewhat reminiscent of the Brahms, Liebslieder Waltzer, though the harmonies are somewhat more up-to-date.
Finally, the fun and rousing movement marked, scherzare, joking! This is a light, bouncy melody over an excitedly syncopated accompaniment, a delightful way to conclude your performance.
