This is an improvisation based upon my mother's playing of this Chopin prelude in c-minor. It is the only piece of music that I ever heard her play in the 18 years that I lived in my childhood home. She would play this when she was angry, sad, in the morning, noon and at night. Now that I'm older I realize she would add musical quotations from other tunes that she (i.e.Beethoven) knew and the order or "form" of her improv changed every time she played it. I sometimes believe that I entered the music field because of listening to this piece so often.It was great fun to sit underneath the piano and watch the pedal apparatus move as she played her "magnum opus."
