Product Description

A work for three trumpets and electronic keyboard by the noted British composer

De Profundis Clamavi (A Cry from the World)', for a very specific fabricated 'church bell' sound, either played on a very wide-range keyboard or the part supplied pre-recorded by the Publisher, and three trumpets, is undoubtedly a powerful utterance - surely one of the most intense utterances you could ever hear (at least, if heard at a realistic volume). One big factor in its intensity is its combination of a sense of a deep, universal tragedy with an even deeper universal heroism and positive mindset. Yet actually it arose from what seemed deceptively to be a little idle playing around with a few real and faked 'church bell' sounds in a pack of soundfont files that an acquaintance had sent the composer recently then. The sound of one particular faked 'church bell' soundfont at once drew the Composer's attention, and from there on his 'doodlings' quickly developed a sense of almost apocalyptic urgency as something unbidden worked out as though a template for the work already existed somewhere within human consciousness. It was presumably no idle coincidence that this work burst out just a few weeks after the notorious '9/11' outrage in the USA in 2001, even though the Composer was not seeking to express anything at all but just to follow the musical logic that presented itself on the basis of the starting sonority and melodic motifs.
