This nostalgic and poignant score is heard in the beginning of the 2017 video game Hollow Knight. Other available versions elsewhere I have encountered are for piano only, but the original score includes a string instrument, perhaps even a viola. Suitable for intermediate violists and pianists both. Doubling of the melodic line (as is heard in the original) is minimized in order to decrease the technical difficulty (omitting octaves in the piano right hand). Some of the rhythms are approximated (in order to match what I heard in the recording, not copying what Larkin wrote exactly per se), so I chose to favor tied dotted eighth-notes and sixteenth-notes (dotted quavers and semiquavers) rather than using triplet quarter notes. The original is intended to play on a loop as long as the player remains in the area, so I included a repeat that includes nearly the entire piece.

For teachers and students: challenges for this piece may include phrasing, counting in cut-time, syncopated rhythms, slowing down, and coordinating flexible time between players.
