Product Description

Hopak is a Ukrainian folk dance originating as male dance among the Zaporozhian Cossaks. It is often popularly referred to as the "National Dance of the Ukraine". Some well known composers have written hopaks as a part of their operas or ballets, so did Modest Mussorgsky in his opera The Fair of Sorochyntsy. Mussorgsky did not complete the opera, so it premiered on stage with piano accompaniment on 30 December 1911 in Saint Petersburg. The arrangement is kept in the original key of the orchestration for symphony orchestra by Anatoly Lyadov and was commissioned and first time performed by Mozarteum Wind Philharmonic Salzburg conducted by Hansjoerg Angerer at their "New Year's Concert" on 6 January 2012 at the "Grosses Festspielhaus" (Large Festival Hall) in Salzburg, Austria. A live recording of this concert is available at https://www.salzburg-windphilharmonic.at/de/musikalische-schaetze-aus-russland-und-wien/ or https://www.jpc.de/jpcng/classic/detail/-/art/schaetze-aus-russland-und-wien/hnum/10428736?iampartner=303&subid=umr54&ref=partner.jpc.de .
