This version of Rocket Man for Saxophone Quartet takes a different approach to this Elton John classic. The piece opens with a sparse groove that is held down by the baritone sax and which underpins the piece. With the melody shared among the remaining 3 horns the music weaves its way through the verse and chorus of this tune and includes a number of 'surprises'. The piece culminates in a 'shout' chorus, reminiscent of a classic big band chart, before restating the themes and ending with a spoken line in the top 3 saxes over the initial baritone sax groove.
