Product Description

The first three pieces should ideally be played with only a brief pause between movements, and the final piece should follow with no break. However, although connected thematically, the movements could stand by themselves as individual works.
The first piece is a prelude in a chorale-like manner.
The second is a scherzo like movement with a mostly playful feel, but sometimes becoming more intense and angular. There is a more tranquil middle section.
After a forceful opening in the third movement, the piece winds down and takes on a serene, contemplative mood with solo instruments interjecting in improvisatory passages.
The fourth, with its ostinato passages, has a more resigned and calm mood, which moves relentlessly to its conclusion.
