Product Description

When Baby Jesus came to this World the angels sang Peace on Earth. But as we look around, that is hardly a reality. And yet, if there is anyone who is able to accomplish this, it is Jesus. As I was reading from the ancient book of Isaiah, I came across a verse that stopped me in my tracks: All your children shall be taught by the Lord; great shall be the peace of your children (Isaiah 54:13 NABRE). In the original Hebrew the last phrase is even more poignant: raab shalom bana (great their peace/wholeness shall be). This is the phrase that launched me to write a prayer song directly to Baby Jesus. As I think of Him being in the manger, totally defenseless, I cant help but to think of all the children of the human race who have suffered since the fall, and all of the pain they have had to endure because of our selfishness, our national and religious pride, and our great ability to cause devastation to each other. So I imagined a scene somewhere in the middle of a Christmas concert where everything would stop to just recognize the pain of human children and we would lay that terrible feeling at the feet of Baby Jesus. Performers can experiment with making that moment as dramatic as they wish, but one idea is to have a child holding a candle singing the solo with a single spot light when the Hebrew phrase comes in and then other children joining as they walk up the stage. The point is to acknowledge the terrible suffering our sins have caused on our children and to realize that it is Baby Jesus who promised to one day put an end to it and make all things beautiful again. As our World shatters and falls deeper into brokenness, we must cling to the promise that one day their wholeness and peace shall be great.
