Seeking a work for your quintet with musical expression moments ranging from subtle to intensive all within three minutes, then look no farther than Boulanger's "Nocturne". Lili Boulanger, the first woman to win the Prix de Rome, influenced by Debussys and Faures compositional approaches, composed her very expressive post-Romantic "Nocturne" in 1911 for violin and piano now arranged for brass quintet with solo passages for trumpets, horn, and trombone that climaxes with a dramatic flurry of rising scale passages for the first trumpet. "Nocturne" is arranged for a brass quintet of two trumpets in B-flat with alternate Trumpet parts in C, horn, trombone, and tuba.
