Kde domov můj is the national anthem of the Czech Republic. It has been in use since the country's independence in 1993. This song formed the first part of the national anthem of the old Czechoslovakia, with the first stanza of the Slovak anthem forming the second. Its music was written by the composer František Škroup (1801-1862) and the playwright Josef Kajetán Tyl (1808-1856) as part of the operetta Fidlovačka aneb žádný hněv a žádná rvačka (No Anger and No Fight), more precisely it was an aria from the first act. It was first performed at the Estates Theatre in Prague on 21 December 1834.
