Gabriel Fauré composed his Requiem in D minor, Op. 48, with the choral-orchestral setting of the mass as one of his best-known of his large works. Focusing on eternal rest and consolation, the soulful movement of Libera Me is a request of God to have mercy upon the deceased person at the Last Judgment.

The work has been arranged for String Quartet consisting of:

2 Violins
1 Viola
1 Cello

The arrangement works also as a String Orchestra arrangment, with double basses doubling the cellos
