Product Description

A collection of Grade 3 & 4 pieces covering a variety of rhythms commonly encountered in the Boogie & Blues genre.

Saturday Night Boogie
An upbeat, fun to play Grade 3 piano boogie with swing (jazz) eighths over a walking bass. This boogie needs to be played in a relaxed manner with good rhythm and accents in the syncopated bars.

Rocking The Blues
This upbeat Grade 3 blues piece has an eighth note (quaver) LH walking bass pattern, with some staccato articulations in the RH. Eighth notes (quavers) should be played straight.

Jitterbug Boogie
This lively Grade 3 boogie was inspired by the swing dancers of the early 20th C. LH provides a driving walking bass while the RH plays syncopated rhythms and piano "stabs".

Train Ride Boogie
This Grade 3 boogie has a familiar, popular "chugging train" style LH. The RH plays
blues scale patterns and syncopated rhythms. Eighth notes (quavers) should be swung.

Boogie 1-4-5
A lively Grade 3 boogie rock focusing on Primary Triads in root position. This piece requires well coordinated hands, a neat staccato touch and quick chord changes. Eighth notes (quavers) are best played straight.

Boogie Train
A lively, fun to play Grade 4 piano boogie with a typical LH boogie bass. The LH bass is a common but difficult pattern requiring flexibility. Students should be able to span octaves comfortably before playing this piece.

1st Inversion Boogie
An upbeat Grade 3 piano boogie in the key of C Major. RH focuses on 1st inversion triads and is played over a steady walking bass. Attention to articulations and accents is needed to convey the jaunty character of this piece.

Chameleon Boogie
Inspired by the chameleons' unusual rocking movements when walking, this fairly lively Grade 3 boogie blues is based on a typical I IV V progression. Standard fingering for chromatic scales has been used for the turns. Eighth notes (quavers) should be lightly swung.

Jingle Bell Boogie
A lively, fun to play Grade 4 boogie arrangement of this popular Christmas carol. LH plays a fairly easy walking bass in the verse, before breaking into a well known boogie pattern for the chorus. LH needs to be relaxed, have flexibility and the ability to span the broken octaves comfortably.
