Clarinet Choir (Eb, four Bb, Alto, Bass, Contra-alto, Contrabass, works with just Eb, Bb 1,2,3, Bass plus either Bb4 or Alto) The stories about tarantellas are many and varied. They are southern Italian folk dances. For this piece, I assume we have a woman happily singing the folk song Santa Lucia, lauding the attractions of Naples, when she is bitten by a tarantula wolf spider. She screams, suffering hysteria and pain, and must now frantically dance, perhaps all night, because this is the only way to recover. Finally she can return to the calm singing.
3 minutes or so, depending on how fast the performers can play and how many repeats they have to make.
