"Comment te dire adieu" ("How to Say Goodbye") is a French adaptation of the song "It Hurts to Say Goodbye", originally recorded by Françoise Hardy in 1968. Hardy heard an "American instrumental version" of the song and her manager asked Serge Gainsbourg to provide suitable lyrics for it. The song was covered in 1989 by former Bronski Beat and Communards singer Jimmy Somerville, as a duet with June Miles-Kingston, reaching number 14 on the UK Singles Chart. Further covers have been made by many artists over the years in multiple languages, proving what a fantastic and accessible song this is (not to mention catchy!) Towards the end of this arrangement are two short solo sections for alto sax and trumpet, to build up to the finale and this is sure to be a crowd-pleaser for any indoor or outdoor concert.
