Program Note:

Without any prior musical idea, the genesis of this chamber work starts from the title Aldebaran. It means the follower, and in the real world a bright star as the eye of the zodiac constellation of Taurus is so titled. Then I ponder if I need a fixed sonority to symbolize this star and put in some materials to follow with it. Consequently, what became rather important to me in the philosophy of this composition is the condition or state of wandering between the act of proceeding forward and the ever-changing perspective of the object due to the various contexts of time and space created within it thereby constituting the relation between the star and the discourse situated beneath it. Therefore, where am I relative to the star?

Written for eighth blackbird, Aldebaran is premiered on May 10th 2013 in Fulton Hall, University of Chicago.
