Purcell wrote a number of movements as "Theatre Music" for the play" The Gordion Knot untied" , believed to be based on the legend concerning Alexander the Great.

The Libretto has been lost.
Originally written for strings only, Gustav Holst added woodwind, horns and trumpets, and set them into two suites.

I have arranged them for wind quintet.
