String Sextet No. 1 (2019-2023) is based upon the Symphonic Suite Sketches (2019-2020), which were charted in painstaking detail in preparation for subsequent orchestration. Quasi-symmetry and numerical coherence are attempted within the background, middle ground, and foreground creating a moiré pattern within the temporal and pitch-interval axes. At the discretion of the performers, movements and measures may be reordered, skipped, or repeated. Tremolo may be considered shorthand for rhythmic indeterminism, and double stops may be considered divisi, in the case of string orchestra.
