Festival Solo in Classical Style

for bassoon solo with piano accompaniment

While composed in 2023, every effort has been made to compose this solo in a true classical style, similar to the concerto movements of Mozart, Haydn, and Hummel. Memorable lyrical melodies, legato, staccato, and marcato passages, dynamic variety, and traditional harmonies, while requiring only limited technical demands, make this an outstanding choice for someone seeking to perform an intermediate-level classical-style solo. The included optional cadenza expands the range with the lowest note being Bb1 and the highest note being Ab4, but the cadenza may be omitted. While composed originally for trumpet, the composer feels this works equally well on the bassoon and the included optional cadenza was composed specifically for the bassoon. The piano accompaniment is accessible to advanced intermediate pianists.
