Ballad is the 5th piece in the Lyric Pieces, Book 8, Op. 65, published in 1897. It is only 36 measures long, and the composer indicates that the piece is to be performed Lento lugubre (slow and dismal).

The complete instrumentation is best for this transcription; however, it can be performed with as few as 10 players. This transcription is also suitable for a medium sized, or even large band for outdoor performance.

This publication is for small concert band with full score (pp. 18), flutepercussion (pp. 927), and transposed parts (pp. 2842).
