The Wide Waters is an intermediate work for concert band written after a particularly challenging season of Hurricanes in Florida and the Gulf Coast in 2017. It musically describes the arrival, damage and departure of the storms. Utilizing elements of the Scottish folk song "The Water Is Wide", the piece was inspired by the spirit of the residents of these areas show a determination to support one another through a deep sense of community in soldiering the storms and helping one another to clean up neighborhoods and rebuild homes and lives.
