Just as Dimas begged the Lord to bring him to heaven, this prayer pleads to God that when our time has come, as we face Him with a thankful heart, we pray that He may grant us the peace of His kingdom and welcome us to our eternal home.
The first part is our prayer of thanksgiving for all the good things that God has done for us even the trials and challenges along our journey.
The second part is our pleading to God for His merciful look upon us, his unworthy servants, of the forgiveness of our sins, and our yearning to grant us His peace and welcome us into heaven. The interweaving melodies of the phrase "O Lord" paints the voice of pleading of repentant sinners wanting to return to the shore of God's great love.
The third part depicts our restful and hopeful resolution to the heaven that God has promised to those who trust and believe in Him.
The piece is good for beginner to intermediate choirs both for performance and as music for reflection on the 7 Last Words of Jesus.
