It has also played an important part in the history, culture, and mythology of the eleven nations through which it winds. In this piece, the left hand sympolizes a regal barge and the right hand is the flow of water. The music has a distinctly exotic sound which is due to the alternation of the C and D-flat major chords, creating what is called a Phrygian Dominant mode.
