Samuel Wesley began his musical career as a choirboy in his fathers church and later studied under noted composers like Johann Christian Bach and Carl Friedrich Abel.

Wesley was a prolific composer, with works ranging from orchestral and choral pieces to hymns and keyboard music. He was known for his skillful use of counterpoint and his ability to meld various musical styles, including those of Bach and Handel.
