The slow movement,is a tranquil subject of Mozartian serenity The first theme, presented by the piano is said to be modelled on the theme from the Larghetto of Mozart's Clarinet Quintet, but whereas the Mozart melody unfolds across 20 bars, Ravel builds an even longer 34-bar melody, without repeating a single bar. A tranquil solo piece suitable for many occasions.
