The GREAT AND POWERFUL Symphony Number Nine of Beethoven! How DARE anyone take on this sacred cow!! Well, again, it is an homage, a tribute to PERHAPS THE GREATEST MUSIC COMPOSITION EVER BROUGHT INTO BEING. EVER. BY ANYONE. So great is its awe and mystery. Truly a gift to humanity.
This is the most elaborate of all the Odd Beethoven pieces. In its brief 2+ minutes it goes through several tempo changes, freely drawing material from all the movements of the original symphony.
The piece opens with a jaded, instantly recognizable piece of music, derived from the original opening with its foreboding open fifths.
The slow movement appears twice, taking on a mysterious, questioning quality. And there is here, as in all the other Odd Beethoven pieces, always that bluesy jazz element.
Couldnt resist a few sly extramusical quotations here and there. Can you find them?
