Doane was a 19th Century jack of all trades from Conneticut. His music was used to set Fanny J. Crosby's lyrics to. Section A and C are the verses. Section B and d are the refrain. Between B and D, a modualtion to the new key is facilitated with the aid of an augented sixth chord (French 6th). A descant is then added by yours truly.
